About Karma --> How to Join Karma Co-op
Joining Karma is easy!
Interested in becoming a member? Only members can shop at Karma Co-op. But you can do a one-time trial shop to try us out before joining (payment in cash only).
To help you decide whether to join, we invite you to a short orientation session at the store, where you will be shown around, have the co-op policies, shopping process and procedures explained, and be able to ask any questions you have about shopping, work credits, etc.
Email orientation@karmacoop.org or call (416)533-6311 if you are interested in attending an orientation session.
If, after completing an orientation session, you decide to join, you will be asked to sign a membership agreement, pay the $70 loan (refundable if you terminate your membership) and annual member fee, and choose a membership type – working or non-working.
What's the difference?
- Working members are required to complete a 2-hour work shift each month. The most common tasks involve store operations: cash, set-up and clean-up. Members are asked to join a work team by signing up with a co-ordinator. The work commitment can also be fulfilled by serving on a committee, which typically involves more than 2 hours of work each month.
- Non-working members pay a surcharge on all of their purchases in lieu of the 2-hour per month work commitment.
